Lavender Hydrosol

First off what is a hydrosol?
After steam or water distillation of a plant and the essential oil is collected, the leftover water from the distillation is called a hydrosol. Hydrosols are mostly water with the water soluble components of the plant not found in the essential oil. They usually contain a very tiny bit of essential oil, less than 1/100th of 1%. Because they are almost all water, they can be used directly on the skin without dilution. But they are so much more. One of the best things about them, I think, is that that are so much more energetic then the oils. Think of them as the Homeopathy of aromatherapy. There will be more on this and how to use them to come.
I want to talk about Lavender hydrosol.
This is the one hydrosol that is a must have (well I think there are 5 must haves but this is #1). This is your do everything Hydrosol. In and of itself it: Reduces inflammation, soothing sunburns, heat rash, bug bites, cleanse cuts, calming to the mind and body, and helps get a restful night’s sleep. It is one of the best to just spray on the skin for a pick me up. Its anti-inflammatory properties work wonders here.
Now for the more energetic used, lavender hydrosol is one of the strongest energetically of all the hydrosols. It is clearing and cleansing to the energy of a person or place, it calms energy, bringing it back into balance. Lavender will fit itself to what you need. This is why it is the one hydrosol I think everyone should have. Your intention sets this hydrosol to what it needs to help you with. Spray it in the bed room to slow down the energy of the day and help get a restful night sleep. Spry in a room to help remove negative energies from a place and make it more peaceful, use it like a smug to remove negative energies from a person’s aura and help seal holes in it. Put a drop on the chakras to help balance them. The list can go on and on, like I talked about earlier this is a do it all Hydrosol.

Of you want to know more drop me a note..

Remembering Ritual for Halloween.

This is a very simple but powerful ritual for remembering all the loved ones and friends that have passed on this year (or when ever). All you need is a tea light and incense for each person you want to honor. The best time to do this is just after midnight on the 31st / 1st; for this is the time when the gate between the worlds is open the widest, up till sunrise on the 1st. The door between the worlds stays open to some extent all the way till the winter solstice. It is also good to have some type of food to sit out, but no meat, milk and something sweet works well. So this is what you do…..

At the right time, sit out some food and drink, just like someone was going to be physically there. Light the tea light and the incense and think or talk about the person, remember them, the good and the bad. Talk to them; say all the things you did not or could not say to them before. When you are finished say good bye or till we meet again (that’s the one I like best). That’s it, do this for everyone that has past this year or in your life. Levee the food and drink outside (it’s better to do this ritual outside to begin with), till after sunrise.

Don’t be surprised if something happens when you are doing this. You might get the feeling that someone is there, here someone talking that’s not there, ETC. Just go with it.

When you work with the energies of essential oils some strange things can and do happen. This is just one story.

The other day I has a lady come in to Massage Envy to get a massage, she had a lot going on and the girl in the front suggested me. She knew I did Reiki and was thinking that would help this lady. When I talked to her she only told me she was under a lot of stress and to work on her back and shoulders. About 15 min into the massage I start to smell neroli and I get the feeling she has had something tragic happen in her life not to long ago. After about 10 more min I was smelling palmarosa and I got the feeling of insecurity from her. Then bergamot and I was pulled to do reiki over her heart. After about 45 min I could not take it, the smell s were over powering. I was getting noshes from it all. The thing is, we cannot use essential oils at massage envy. This was all in my head. I finally yield in my head “stop it, I cannot use the oils here” and then it was all gone. After the massage she started talking, she told me that her home was broken into 2 day before and she got home right as the burglar was leaving. To me this explained the oils I smelled. Neroli is good for traumatic events that bring grief; Palmarosa helps with feeling of insecurity, helping to make them feel they are safe. Bergamot is good for opening and protecting the heart chakra. I started talking to her about using essential oils and told her she should try the ones I smelled, I did not tell her I smelled them when I was working on here, she told me she would look into them.

This smelling oils when I’m working on someone, thinking about them or even just talking to them started about 4 years back, but in the last 6 months it has been going strong. This just shows that there is just some much more to the oils and us then we know about yet. In time……

Spirit knows what it’s doing.

Was called to use Rosemary Verbenon hydrosol yesterday, its good for energizing the mind and to help focus it. After about 4 hrs of using it, just a spray in the air of the massage room before each client, I was going in 15 directions at once, was having a hard time thinking about just one thing at a time. Was asking myself way would spirit have me using this hydrosol today when I could see no one has need of it. Then a long time friend came in to have me work on them, they have 20 irons in the fire at one time, all the time. TA DA now I know why I was called to use this. I keep having the urge to spray the rosemary every 5 or 10 min. only sprayed it 3 times. Now I am thinking I might have been moved to use this every time there mind started moving off to more then one thing.
Sometime you just have to let go and KNOW that Spirit knows what it’s doing.

White sage and Himalayan Cedarwood hydrosols

Just like using the herbs, the hydrosols are used for clearing and cleansing a person or place of unwanted energies. Using the hydrosols is nice in places that you can’t burn the herds themselves. These are two of the most powerful emergently of all the hydrosols I have ever used.

How to use, take a 4oz spray bottle, add 1oz of the white sage and 1oz of cedarwood. Fill the rest of the bottle with spring water. If you can not keep this mix in the refrigerator you might want to add a bit of 190 proof grain alcohol. Shake this mix before use. Spray into the center of the room. See, feel and visualize the unwanted energy dispersing. Yes 1 spray is all it should take for daily cleaning of a good size room. If there has been a lot of negative energies released in the room you might want to give it 2 or 3 sprays. For working on a person just spray above there head and let it drift down around them. Remember to visualize.

White Sage is the big purifier. It removes all old and negative energies where it is used. The one thing that must be said about this hydrosol is that it MUST be diluted! It is just that strong. Something to think about as well, if you do energy work and have tools that you use, crystals, stones, ETC, this Hydrosol may clean all the “programmed” energy you might have stored in them. Yes, it is just that strong!

Something very important to remember when you do a cleaning is to do a protection of some type to keep unwanted energies out of the place or off the person. This is what the Cedarwood hydrosol is for. It is a clearer of energies, but it is also a protector, helping to keep negative energies out. While cedarwood is a mild cleaner of the energies, its protecting powers are well know. I sometimes use this hydrosol on its own to keep a place safe. Once a week or so I like to put a drop or two on all the openings of my home, the doors and windows to set up and keep a good “protection” vibration going.

This is just two hydrosols that are out there. We will be talking about more in the coming days.

The Main tools of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the exact art and subtle science of using special extracts from plants to bring about change in the mind, body and energies of a person or place. The extracts most often used are Essential oils, Hydrosols and CO2 extracts.

Essential oils are steam distilled from the leafs, roots, bark, seeds, flowers, resins and sometimes fruits of plants from all over the world. They are not true oils, only oil like, most are very volatile and evaporate quickly, are light and non-greasy. Very large quantities of plant material are put into a distiller and steam is used to release the “oils”. For something to be a “true” essential oil, it must be steam distilled.

The distilling process produces a second subtends used in Aromatherapy, the Hydrosol. This is the water that has reconstructed after the distilling. It contains very small amounts of essential oil, but mostly it has the water soluble components of the plants. Unlike the essential oils, most hydrosols can be used internally, with the right training, and must be keep refrigerated. The one thing that sticks out for me with hydrosols is that they are even more energetic then the oils are.
The next extract is a CO2 extract. This is when they take carbon dioxide; put it under a lot of presser. At this point is becomes liquid and plant material is mix in. After a time the CO2 is release and the plant material is removed. What is left is, most times, a thick pasty, waxy stuff. A CO2 extract is a FULL extract with the waxes and more of the resins then an essential oil and it will have most of the water soluble components as well. What all we can do with this very new extract is still being looked into. The one thing we do know is that they are 30 to 50 times stronger then the essential oil.

There is one other type of extract used in aromatherapy and most of the time is grouped in with the essential oils. They are the cold pressed oil. Most of these come from fruits like lemon, oranges and the like. These extracts still have some of the water and waxes in them and have a much shorter shelf life.

There will be more about the extracts coming soon.

Introducing Me and my Blog

Hello all, my name is Dannie Lane and I am a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist as well as a License Massage Therapist, Reiki Master / Teacher and Certified Reflexologest. I started doing Body Work way back in 1988 when I first started using and studding Essential oils. I got my certification in Aromatherapy in 1999 and my clinical certification in 2001. Since that time I have been using these powerful plant extracts to help improve the health and lives of myself and others. At first I used them just for there effects on the physical body, but over the years I started working with there “energetic” effects, there effect on the mind, emotions, spirit and the subtle energy of the body. I now combined the two, energetic and physical in a holistic view to help bring about wellness.
This Blog is going to be about what I have learned over the years, about the oils, hydrosols and CO2 extracts and all the wonder and wellness they can bring to you. I hope you enjoy it and will share your stories with us all.

Wind to you wings
